We loved being part of this year's LAMP (lighting architecture movement project) event! Lot's of beautiful lanterns and we loved working with the kids in the same room as the competition finalists at Jan Kath's studio.
This fall Judith and Robin have been invited by LAMP (Lighting Architecture Movement Project) to teach a lantern-making workshop inspired by our stories Sunny's Dark Night and Foggy's Big Fright as well as our lantern project for Small Wonder magazine.
Details: 2nd Annual L A M P Workshop for KIDS teams up with the gals from Windy & friends to create a fun filled morning for youngsters making their own LED Paper Lanterns! Kids of all ages will follow the basic diy instructions to make their lanterns and are then given the freedom to explore their own decorating techniques.
Registration fee covers the cost of materials, a L A M P tote bag, a snack & a download of the "Sunny's Dark Night" - the groundbreaking stop-motion animation app by Windy & friends.
Judith & Robin will be speaking about developing their series of print books into apps and keeping it all handmade at Canzine West this Saturday. Joining us will be Talent Pun, the super fantastic designer at Loud Crow that we worked with. We love Talent!

It's World Book Day!
When we're not playing with dolls, making checklists or making award-winning apps, we ... design books! Both of us are print book designers. And we love books.
In honour of World Book Day we interviewed each other about what we like about making books:
Robin: It's International Book Day! No, it's World Book Day! What do we like most about making books? I think I like the smell [of newly printed books].
Judith: Oh, yes, I like the smell, too. I like the crackling sound.
Robin: The crackling sound?
Judith: Yes, new books make a sort of crackling sound when you first open them.
Robin: Oh, right, I see what you mean. Yeah, that's a good one.
One of the fun parts of our job is visiting printing presses for a press check. Here is a great little video showing how a picture book is made, from sketch through to binding, from minibombo.

We're putting the finishing touches on our upcoming Easter appisode, more about that soon! It's almost finished...
(update: we've had a technical issue, but stay tuned, the gifs look great and our tutorial will come out soon) We are also putting together a tutorial for making your own stop-motion animation. Learning about stop-motion and getting in the director's chair was one of the most interesting parts of translating our books to apps. We have a fun and simple tutorial for making your own at home — stay tuned!
